In KPMG Australia’s new report, “30 Voices on 2030: The Future of Space” Inmarsat Government’s Senior Vice President for Government Strategy and Policy, Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, joins other industry experts in sharing diverse views on where the space industry is headed and what it may look like in 2030.
Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch lays out the roadmap for the future of deploying cost-effective space assets and growing a competitive satellite communications (SATCOM) environment. She also provides advice on the industry’s two biggest challenges: situational awareness and the role of government. She notes that space situational awareness, debris mitigation and international coalition are necessary in order to “innovate beyond what we cannot even begin to imagine today.”
Additionally, Rebecca predicts that by 2030, the future SATCOM architecture will offer more capabilities to a wider variety of users and the industry will have more investors and buyers: “We expect there to be an integration between the space segment, the terrestrial segment and the wireless segment, with communications flowing between satellite communication, terrestrial communication or wireless, whichever is more appropriate for that particular application, atmospheric condition or regulatory environment,” she said.
