The regional Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) has joined with Inmarsat’s Velaris Partner Network as part of it's transformation of Lleida-Alguaire Airport into a centre of excellence for Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) innovation.

Around 5 miles (8 kilometres) from the city of Lleida, Lleida-Alguaire Airport is making its runway, full aerodrome and air traffic control services available to ground-breaking advanced air mobility research programmes.

Inmarsat will bring together ATM and UTM technologies, and integrating it with the aeronautical industry, regulators and local government as part of research projects up to four times per year in the form of real-life, practical demonstrations.

Lleida Airport will become a benchmark for airspace testing with the development of Inmarsat VELARIS, an application for unmanned aerial vehicles, providing them with secure communications to fly beyond the line of sight and integrate with aircraft within commercial airspace.

Lleida airport is solidifying its place as an innovative platform for urban air mobility. The Chinese company EHang will test its EH216 aircraft at the site, which will explore the application of this type of vehicle in an airport environment, contributing to a more integrated and sustainable airspace and promoting even more air mobility solutions. safe, autonomous, and ecological.
