The UAS SATCOM ecosystem: scalable and portable service plans

null

In the final installment of our UAS blog series, Inmarsat Government's Tom Costello discusses how Inmarsat's scalable and portable service plans support multiple UAS missions around the world

In our previous blogs about our satellite communications (SATCOM) ecosystem built for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), we illustrated how our global coverage, flexible and highly available network, terminal options and responsive service integration can help you. The next challenge is about finding a scalable and portable service plan that matches your budget and data-rate requirements.

Only Inmarsat users can take advantage of our unique portability. While each UAS has its own subscriber identity module (SIM), Inmarsat allows portability of the plan between multiple unmanned aircrafts. For example, a UAS in Africa can port service to a UAS in South America. As a result, you never pay for more that you need, but you still get coverage and backhaul configurations unique to your mission.

Scalable data plans prove essential because today’s mission/Areas of Responsibility (AOR) will not match tomorrows. Our plans start with pay-as-you-go (or subscriptions) and scale up to leases for spectrum, or leases managed by our “SATCOM as a Service.” Here are more details about what we offer:

  • Pay-as-you-go plans via Inmarsat’s ELERA worldwide L-band constellation remain popular for data rate requirements of less than 432 kbps. These are our most affordable subscription service plans because they ensure a best-effort data rate up to 432 kbps globally, through a single installation on an aircraft and our always-on data service, so no advance notice is needed.
  • Our Global Xpress Ka-band constellation subscriptions bring high-guaranteed Mbps data rates with surge best efforts Mbps data-rate capability. They offer the lowest price per megabits and a stable monthly bill. With solid service level agreements (SLA) and committed information rates (CIR), users get what they ask for and the quality of the acquired service is assured.
  • Our managed spectrum ‘SATCOM as a Service’ has emerged as the most popular plan by far among U.S. government customers, with a host of tailorable capabilities. It is especially beneficial for customers with a global mission in regional hot spots and high data-rate requirements, and you can customize leases for high-guaranteed data rates, concentrated coverage and tailored backhaul - you only buy what you need when you need it.
  • Leases for spectrum are our most traditional wholesale service: You lease it and manage everything associated with its use – a strong option for an experienced military SATCOM associated entity with a long-term mission requirement over a specific region.
  • For specialty missions that require rapid deployment and high flexibility, we offer Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) – a premium L-band service that allows for globally portable, rapidly stand-up or relocate leases, launching operations in as little as six hours.

Once you choose a plan, you will get up and running swiftly because our skilled wholesale partners hold multiple contract vehicles with military and civilian agencies to deliver our services.
