Magic all around at NBAA 2019

The business aviation event saw various hot topics addressed and an appearance from Magic Johnson

NBAA is the one of the biggest events in the business aviation industry, bringing together key players in the aviation community from around the world. There are over 23,000 attendees, including current and prospective business aircraft owners, manufacturers and customers, as well as a plethora of innovative businesses that supply the industry with products and services.

This year’s exhibition in Las Vegas saw over 1,000 exhibitors, as well as more than 100 aircraft displayed both indoors and out. The show included over 50 education sessions, which delved into new industry innovations, emerging technologies and hot topics. Focus areas included the compelling topics of urban air mobility, including a new product showcase, sustainability for the future, as well as artificial intelligence, electric aircraft and eVTOL. Connectivity had an important part to play in many of the discussions.

With the event preparations underway, over 70 aircraft arrived on site. 

As the Gulfstream fleet flew to the event, they were keen to report that they used sustainable aviation fuel and carbon offsets. 

In fact, Gulfstream weren’t the only ones to use sustainable fuel on the way to NBAA:

Monday, 21st October

There was a beautiful sunrise in Las Vegas on Monday morning, to kick off the week of NBAA 2019. 

The excitement built as the construction in the exhibition centre was finalised.

The aircraft display looked impressive: 

Honeywell hosted a media flight onboard its Dassault Falcon 7X over the Grand Canyon, with fantastic feedback about Inmarsat’s Jet ConneX inflight Wi-Fi for business aviation: 

Honeywell Aero had more great news the day before NBAA started, as it announced it is forecasting up to 7,600 new business jet deliveries worth $248 billion from 2020-2029: 

Tuesday, 22nd October

Day one of the event kicked off and the Inmarsat team were excited about acquainting people with our next-gen satellites. 

And it wasn’t long before the floor was crowded: 

And one attendee noted how appropriate the marshalls directing the crowd were. 

The news was well received by the media, with back to back interviews for Inmarsat SVP Kai Tang, talking about the installation milestone, future plans for Jet ConneX and Inmarsat’s 40th anniversary:

Keynote speakers on day one, included NBAA Meritorious Service to Aviation Award recipient Ross Perot Jr., tech entrepreneur Sky Dayton, Game Composites founder Steuart Walton and basketball superstar Magic Johnson.

Wednesday, 23rd October

Day two saw Inmarsat report SVP Kai Tang’s thoughts about how our partners enable us to listen to our customers’ needs and use that knowledge to invest in future architectures:

And innovative new business aviation products received a special spotlight during a New Product Showcase: 

If attendees were low on energy, the in-house DJ brought happy vibes for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Then that was farewell to day two at the exhibition.

In the evening, Inmarsat hosted a special party for partners to celebrate its 40th anniversary. It was a packed house at the popular High Roller, where guests were also able to try out the 550-foot tall, 520-foot diameter giant Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip.

Thursday, 24th October

Day three was all about careers in aviation: 

Presentations by FAA Administrator, Steve Dickson and Perlan Project Chief Pilot, Jim Payne were focused on inspiring in students to pursue a career in aviation:

And that was all folks. All in all, it was another excellent event and we’re looking forward to NBAA 2020 in Orlando already.
