22 July 2019: Gulfstream Aerospace Corp is celebrating outfitting an industry-leading 300 aircraft with Inmarsat Jet ConneX, the fastest-growing inflight broadband service for the business aviation market.
Since May 2017, Gulfstream has delivered more Jet ConneX-equipped aircraft than any other business-jet manufacturer, including in-production large-cabin aircraft G650ER™, G650™, G550™, the clean-sheet G500™, which entered service in September 2018, and the all-new G600™, which earned type and production certification on 28 June from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Nearly half the installations are retrofits.
“The office-in-the-sky experience is very much a reality with Gulfstream and Jet ConneX,” said Derek Zimmerman, President, Gulfstream Customer Support. Our customers value our ability to efficiently incorporate this technology on our aircraft and the consistent and reliable global coverage it provides. They are enjoying live TV programmes, video streams and video connections, such as FaceTime, with their colleagues, family and friends.”
Jet ConneX is the only global, high-speed inflight broadband option available in Ka-band for business jets today. Powered by Inmarsat’s wholly-owned and operated network of high-throughput satellites, it provides fast and reliable connectivity in the air, similar to what has previously only been available on the ground, with coverage across 100% of major routes.
Jet ConneX is available through Gulfstream’s Connectivity Service, a customer-centric programme that makes Gulfstream the single source for equipment, service networks and technical support.
Kai Tang, Senior Vice President of Channel at Inmarsat Aviation, said: “Our advanced Jet ConneX inflight Wi-Fi is the gold standard for business aviation and we are delighted that it has been installed on 300 aircraft by Gulfstream, one of the biggest and most respected names in the industry.
“In a market where only the best is good enough, this impressive milestone is testament to Jet ConneX’s successful track record of delivering consistent and reliable high-speed connectivity with seamless global coverage. We look forward to working with Gulfstream, as our partnership continues to develop from strength to strength.”
In May, we announced a new JX-Pro package to provide new and existing Jet ConneX customers with unrivalled performance and the fastest connectivity speeds – 33% higher than the service’s previous fastest plan.
In addition, Jet ConneX will continue to benefit from our confirmed investment in new Ka-band payloads to further enhance its global service. New satellite launches are scheduled in 2019 (GX5), 2020 and 2021 (GX6A, GX6B) and a new contract with Airbus Defence & Space to develop a pioneering new generation of satellites for our Global Xpress (GX) network will transform inflight broadband capabilities for airlines across the world.
Furthermore we have committed to two new GX payloads to provide extra coverage and capacity in higher elevations and across the Arctic through a new partnership with Space Norway.
