SingTel extends Global Xpress VAR relationship with Inmarsat

Inmarsat, (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with SingTel, appointing the specialised managed satellite services provider as a worldwide Value Added Reseller (VAR) for Global Xpress (GX), serving vertical markets, including media, energy and NGO.  In an additional announcement, Inmarsat will be working with SingTel to deliver a wholesale, managed Ka-band service powered by Global Xpress.

SingTel has a strong presence across Asia Pacific and will play an important role in driving take-up of Inmarsat’s new high-throughput, Ka-band, GX satellite service across Asia and Africa. The advanced features and high throughput nature of the GX Ka-band platform will complement SingTel’s existing fixed satellite services platforms. It will also enable the company to service the growing number of fixed, mobile and portable requirements.

“We are delighted to welcome SingTel to our family of Enterprise GX VARs,” said Ronald Spithout, President, Inmarsat Enterprise. “In many areas, the existing terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure is simply unable to support end-user corporate applications that require higher bandwidth levels. As a result, there is significant, untapped demand for a high-throughput satellite service like Global Xpress; one that can be deployed rapidly and easily. SingTel’s terrestrial experience will ensure that a suite of integrated, carrier class wireline and wireless solutions will be provided to its global corporate customers.”

Lim Kian Soon, Head of SingTel Satellite said: “We are delighted to be the first telecommunications company in Asia to be appointed a Global Xpress Enterprise VAR. By harnessing our telecommunications and infocomm technology capabilities in combination with Global Xpress, we are now able to offer our Media, Energy and Offshore enterprise customers a fully integrated end-to-end solution with global mobility.”

Director of GX sales for Inmarsat’s Enterprise business unit, Rash Jhanjee said: “SingTel will be using Global Xpress to deliver a new type of Ka-band managed service.   This service will benefit from high broadband speed, coupled with lower cost terminals and a more economical service platform available through Global Xpress, to deliver a compelling proposition to their key target markets.”

This service will enable SingTel’s enterprise customers to enjoy high-speed satellite connectivity within the selected region in a more cost-effective manner.

Global Xpress will be the world’s first globally available Ka-band, high-speed mobile and fixed broadband satellite network. The first of our Global Xpress satellites, which is designed primarily to serve the African, the Middle East and European markets, was launched on 8th December 2013.

SingTel is a long-standing Inmarsat Distribution Partner and has been offering its customers Inmarsat’s award-winning L-band services for eight years, including BGAN, FleetBroadband, M2M and Inmarsat’s family of satellite phones.
