Inmarsat showcases market-leading portfolio

Booth 1S2-01, CommunicAsia, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore SINGAPORE, 18 June 2012 – Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, is showcasing its market-leading portfolio of voice and data services at this year's CommunicAsia, the largest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) event in the Asia Pacific region. Delivered via the world's most reliable satellite communications network, Inmarsat's comprehensive offering includes voice and high-speed data services such as Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) and BGAN Link; machine-to-machine services BGAN M2M, IsatData Pro and Isat M2M; and voice services IsatPhone Pro and IsatPhone Link.

New developments being showcased for the first time at CommunicAsia include the ability for IsatPhone Pro users to access Twitter from anywhere in the world – sending and receiving tweets via the handset's SMS function. Inmarsat will also be discussing upcoming developments, such as the higher-rate BGAN streaming service planned for introduction next year.

“The Asia Pacific region has always been very important for Inmarsat,” said Drew Brandy, Vice President of the Industry business unit at Inmarsat.  “Australia, India, China, and Southeast Asia are particularly high-growth markets with an ever-increasing demand for reliable and secure voice and data connectivity,” he said.

Inmarsat solutions play a fundamental role in the business-critical global communications networks supporting major industries such as energy, media, mining, oil & gas, transport and utilities, many of which operate in harsh and geographically remote environments. Government and aid agencies also rely upon Inmarsat services to deliver essential and lifeline communications in times of emergency or in remote locations where access to terrestrial networks is limited.

“From the remote mines of the Australian outback and China to the very exciting media sector of Southeast Asia, we provide always-on, future-proof connectivity that enables companies and organisations to boost efficiency and stay ahead of their game,” Brandy said.

The usage level of Inmarsat's BGAN service by broadcasters is highest in Asia Pacific; the region's emerging economies, such as Indonesia and Vietnam, also represent significant opportunities. “Our plans for a higher-data rate BGAN streaming service will deliver even more options and greater flexibility to broadcasters of all sizes and with wide-ranging requirements,” Brandy added.

Inmarsat has also experienced increased take-up for Inmarsat's M2M solutions in the environmental, utilities and transport sectors. “Asia-Pacific is predicted to emerge as the fastest growing market for machine-to-machine services, and we're glad to be rapidly gaining ground here,” Brandy said.
