SITAONAIR activates Inmarsat GX Aviation on Singapore Airlines

25 September 2017: SITAONAIR has become the first Inmarsat Value Added Reseller to activate GX Aviation high-speed broadband on commercial aircraft in Asia.

SITAONAIR’s complete nose-to-tail connectivity experience over GX Aviation, including its inflight Wi-Fi hub ONAIR, mobile voice and data services Mobile ONAIR and digital devices for the cockpit, is now available to passengers on one of Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

The upgrade of SIA’s Inmarsat SwiftBroadband-enabled aircraft to GX Aviation is the continuation of a five-year partnership between the airline and SITAONAIR to deliver the best connected aircraft experience for its passengers, crew and operations.

Integrated solution

SITONAIR plans to rollout GX Aviation on the remainder of Singapore Airlines’ 777-300ER aircraft and other fleet type.

Yann Cabaret, Vice President Customer Programmes at SITAONAIR, said: “I would like to commend our strong working partnership with Singapore Airlines, as well as with key partners such as Aeroconseil, Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, Honeywell, Inmarsat, KID-Systeme GmbH, SIA Engineering Company and Zodiac Inflight Innovations, for helping make SIA’s end-to-end integrated solution a reality.”

GX Aviation is the world’s first global, high-speed inflight broadband service from a single operator. It allows airline passengers to browse the internet, stream videos, check social media and more during flights, with an on-board connectivity experience on par with mobile broadband services available on the ground.

Important milestone

Otto Gergye, Asia Pacific Vice President of Inmarsat Aviation, said: “The activation of GX Aviation on Singapore Airlines’ first aircraft is an important milestone for Inmarsat and we congratulate our partner SITAONAIR and of course Singapore Airlines itself on this exciting development.

“We look forward to working with them to now activate GX Aviation on the remainder of Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and other fleet type.”
