Fleet Secure Cyber Awareness

Learn how to be cyber aware

With 50% of seafarers stating that they are not confident they would know about a cyber issue onboard*, ship owners cannot afford to ignore this high risk to their vessels as modern ships and seafarers are prime targets for cyberattacks.

Fleet Secure Cyber Awareness is an app-based e-learning tool for seafarers, developed by the MLA College, under the guidance of the University of Sunderland in the UK. The content of the course is in accordance with guidelines on Maritime Cyber Security published by the IMO (International Maritime Organization), BIMCO (The Baltic and International Maritime Council) and Classification Societies.

The e-learning tool is available through Google Play and AppStore for seafarers to download and install on their devices before voyage. Simple training modules provide guidance and tutoring against potential digital threats, to stop threats before you get onboard.

Once installed the app works offline, removing the need to utilise any vessel bandwidth or any personal time ashore.

Each 30-minute training module covers:

  • ✓ Digital threats using personal information
  • ✓ Digital threats using the IT devices
  • ✓ The physical and human threat
  • ✓ Final competency test and completion certificate

Upon completion, seafarers will receive a course completion certificate form the University of Sunderland and a certificate of Continuing Professional Development from the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.
