Inmarsat continues award-winning spree with latest aviation accolade from Inflight Magazine in Asia Pacific

Inmarsat, the world’s leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, has been crowned a winner at the inaugural Inflight Magazine Asia Pacific Awards in Singapore for its ground-breaking new GX Aviation inflight broadband service.

Inmarsat received the highest votes from an independent panel of judges in the ‘Connectivity Enablement’ category, taking the lead over other competitors in the Asia Pacific market. It follows a separate accolade in the region for Inmarsat, when GX Aviation was selected as recipient of the Product Innovation Award from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the Airline Public Communication Alliance (APCA) China in September.

The award reinforces the success of Inmarsat’s strategy to provide airlines with tailored, scalable capacity by designing, owning and operating the world’s first and only global network of High-Throughput Satellites (HTS). GX Aviation is the only service in the market that guarantees minimum data rates, ensuring that airline passengers can browse the internet, stream videos, check social media and more during flights, with reliable, seamless onboard connectivity that is comparable to the mobile broadband services they may receive on the ground.

Otto Gergye, Inmarsat Aviation’s Vice President Asia Pacific, said: “We are delighted that GX Aviation has won accolades for its outstanding inflight internet from a jury of industry experts. GX Aviation is a game-changer in the industry; the first in offering truly reliable and seamless broadband internet to every passenger and every flight in the world. This is as much a celebration of the exclusive partnership between Inmarsat and Honeywell hardware. Underpinned by our future investments in infrastructure, we remain committed to delivering cutting-edge connectivity that passengers, pilots and crew can depend on wherever they go.”

Alexander Preston, Editor of Inflight Magazine, said: ”Inmarsat’s future-proofing investment in providing reliability connectivity via its GX Aviation satellite constellation and Honeywell’s JetWave terminal was cited as the decisive factor by the independent judging panel. This award acknowledges the operational and passenger experience benefits which GX offers. The Inflight team congratulates Inmarsat on their ongoing commitment to inflight connectivity.”

Singapore Airlines is GX Aviation’s launch customer in the Asia Pacific region. The service has already been activated on the first Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER aircraft by Inmarsat’s partner SITAONAIR and is currently being rolled out on the remainder of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and other fleet type. Other GX Aviation customers in Asia Pacific include Air New Zealand, the AirAsia Group and Philippine Airlines.

Airlines connect to the GX network using exclusive new JetWave terminals produced by Honeywell Aerospace. The terminals are designed for ease of installation and maintenance to assure the lowest downtime for any cabin connectivity solution in the market, allowing installation with minimal labour and using standard tools available in maintenance hangars.

Inmarsat now has more than 1,300 aircraft installations expected under signed contracts for its next generation GX Aviation and European Aviation Network (EAN) inflight connectivity services.
