Inmarsat SafetyNET II shortlisted for Lloyds List Global Award

Inmarsat has been named as a finalist in the Lloyds List Global Awards 2017, the most influential awards in the maritime industry, for its SafetyNET II service.

The China Merchants Port Holdings Innovation Award identifies innovative technology or projects that have the potential to move shipping forward – whether in safety, environment or operational efficiency.

SafetyNET II, which has already been credited with saving seafarers’ lives, is the next generation upgrade of SafetyNET, the international system for broadcasting and automatic reception of Maritime Safety Information and Search and Rescue communications.

Crucial to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, SafetyNET II’s enhanced functions enable delivery of weather forecasts, piracy warnings, distress alerts and scheduled messages, and works via FleetBroadband, Inmarsat C and Mini C terminals.

Award winners will be announced on 27 September at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London.
