Inmarsat sponsors Land Rover Experience Tour 2017

Inmarsat and partners Cobham SATCOM and CPN Satellite Services will help keep participants in the gruelling Land Rover Experience Tour 2017 safe and connected with a full range of satellite communication services.

The biannual off-road challenge invites international teams of amateur drivers to put the latest Land Rover models to the test. This year’s event will see them tackle Peru’s unforgiving terrain – from remote wilderness to mountain switchbacks – in a three-week test of nerve and agility, which started on 14 October.

The participants won their places by taking part in a series of qualifying competitions.

The six teams, plus support experts from Land Rover Germany, will be supplied with Global Xpress high speed data connectivity; vehicular BGAN for comms on the move; rugged IsatPhone 2 satellite phones, with emergency assistance button; and IsatData Pro to track the vehicles.

As well as providing peace of mind, the satellite communication package will enable the drivers and the tour’s media team to report on all the action via blogs and social media.

The Land Rover Experience Tour was established to demonstrate the extreme durability of the cars – famous for their off-road capabilities – in the most inhospitable environments on the planet. Previous events have taken in Australia’s Northern Territories and the ancient Silk Road through central Asia.
