Inmarsat appoints Regional Director of Global Government for Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa (CAMENA)

Inmarsat has appointed Bashir Patel as its Regional Director of Global Government for the Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa (CAMENA) region.

A highly experienced executive in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), satellite systems and defence aerospace, Mr. Patel will be committed to strengthening strategic relationships to support Inmarsat's partners and their customers, further developing the company's Global Government business in the region, and enhancing Inmarsat's network of government hubs in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, South Africa and Singapore.

Mr Patel has worked in hi-tech industries, primarily the satellite and telecoms sectors, for some 30 years, serving in management consulting and business development capacities. He has particular expertise in the Middle Eastern, African and Western Asian markets, which included posts with, amongst others, ICO Global Communications, British Aerospace and, more recently, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO). In his new role, Mr Patel will expand upon Inmarsat's relationships with multiple stakeholders, including Government agencies, operators and channel partners. He will also retain his role as the CTO's Ambassador to the Middle East.

Andy Start, President, Inmarsat Global Government, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Bashir Patel. Following the launch of Global Government last year, we have accelerated our investment in this sector to provide innovative solutions that meet the specific needs of government customers and of our distribution partners that support them. Bashir's appointment underlines our commitment to the CAMENA markets, which we regard as strategically important. The experience and credentials he brings will provide a strong basis on which to expand our presence in these regions.”

Commenting on his appointment, Bashir Patel said: “Inmarsat's commitment to delivering high quality mobile satellite solutions has found favour with partners and customers across the government market who value our combination of international scope and regional expertise, supported by a strong understanding of local client needs.”
