Bechtel Australia selects Inmarsat to provide permanent plant telecommunications

Inmarsat today announced it has been selected by Bechtel Australia Pty. Ltd., with an award in March 2012, to provide the permanent plant telecommunication systems for the Australia Pacific LNG facility on Curtis Island in Gladstone.

Bechtel Australia is the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management contractor for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Curtis Island.

The permanent plant telecommunication solutions are provided by Inmarsat's Engineering & Integration Services group and will be used for the life of the facility.

The Inmarsat permanent plant telecommunications solution includes design engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the most advanced telecommunications and security systems.  Components include telephony, microwave and wireless communications, in addition to computer networks, video surveillance, intrusion detection and access control.

Bechtel will use the solutions to ensure reliable, cost-effective communications between the facility's employees and contractors, and to meet the industry's most stringent security requirements.

In an earlier award in May 2011, Bechtel Australia selected Inmarsat to provide construction telecommunications systems that are being used during the construction phase of the Australia Pacific LNG facility.  Inmarsat also has provided Bechtel with integrated telecommunications and security systems for LNG plants in other important global regions.

Gerbrand Schalkwijk, Vice President for Enterprise Energy at Inmarsat, said, “This award demonstrates our ability to meet contractor demands for integrated plant-security and telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance.”

Australia Pacific LNG project is a venture between Origin, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec and includes the further development of coal seam gas reserves in the Surat and Bowen basins, a gas transmission pipeline and a multi-train LNG facility on Curtis Island, near Gladstone.
