17 December 2015: Inmarsat is partnering with Red Bull, the multi-platform media company with a focus on sports, culture, and lifestyle, to become its Red Bull Content Pool Technology Partner for Extreme Events.
Our resilient, reliable network will power mobile journalism for the media teams who are tasked with providing a constant stream of real-time updates to fans back home – crucial for engaging audiences in today’s media-hungry world.
Starting with one of the most extreme motorsport races of them all, the Dakar Rally in South America, we have transformed the Red Bull Content Pool Land Rover Defender into a mobile media distribution studio.
With a roof-mounted BGAN Explorer 727 vehicular terminal plus a portable BGAN Explorer 510 terminal, Red Bull’s photographers can get as close as they need to the action and get content back to base quickly over Inmarsat’s reliable satellite network.
The team will also have four of our latest handheld satellite phones – IsatPhone 2 – for voice communications, tracking and safety support.
Following the rally through 9,500 kilometres of inhospitable terrain, while remaining permanently connected to tell the whole story, is far from a straightforward task. But thanks to our reliable and robust connectivity, Red Bull is able to bring the odyssey of the Dakar into the connected world for the first time.
