New wideband satellite ‘blueprint’ requires industry collaboration

In a contributed article for National DEFENSE, Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, Inmarsat Senior Vice President, Government Strategy and Policy U.S. Government Business Unit, outlines how the analysis of alternatives (AoA) for Defense Department wideband satellites can aid in the establishment of a ‘commercial first’ mind set in order to create the next generation of satellite communication architecture.

Government leadership, along with the commercial working group participating in the AoA, are collaborating on the steps necessary to enable global mobility, resilience, high data-driven functionality, security and affordability for military users on land, in the air and at sea.

This new ‘blueprint’ is intended to take the best of what industry has to offer, and seamlessly integrate commercial and military satellite communication capabilities into the future Department of Defense satellite architecture.
