New life-saving emergency response facility for IsatPhone 2

04 February 2015: Inmarsat is to offer all post-pay IsatPhone 2 customers access to the GEOS Worldwide Emergency Response Coordination service, free-of-charge.


The service allows customers to contact the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) by simply pressing the assistance button located at the top of the IsatPhone 2 handheld satellite phone handset. A message is then triggered containing the user’s GPS co-ordinates and sent over Inmarsat’s global satellite network.

Once the emergency notification request is received the response centre, staffed 24-7 and located in Houston, USA, will contact the user directly and establish the nature of the emergency. GEOS staff will then notify the appropriate authorities based on region and nature of the emergency, to begin search and rescue procedures.

Volatile areas

“Increasingly, safety and security are paramount concerns amongst purchasers of satellite phones who often work in isolated or volatile areas,” said Greg Ewert, President, Inmarsat Enterprise. “The GEOS service is an excellent complement to the IsatPhone 2’s tracking functionality, and coupled with the global reach of Inmarsat’s reliable satellite network, will provide a welcome peace of mind for new and existing IsatPhone 2 customers.”

An in-box insert, with details of the service and how to set up will be included with all new IsatPhone 2 devices. Existing post-paid IsatPhone 2 customers can register for the service at the GEOS website.

If existing and new pre-pay customers wish to access the service they can do so by paying the annual GEOS fee. Additional GEOS membership benefits to defray search and rescue and medivac costs are also available to Inmarsat customers.
