Inmarsat’s Senior Vice President of Government Strategy and Policy, Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, led the “Business Models and the Future of Integrated SATCOM” panel at the 2017 DoD Commercial SATCOM Workshop.
Hosted by the Satellite Industry Association (SIA), the session highlighted the critical need for interoperable end-to-end SATCOM capabilities delivered in a mission-assured, agile fashion to support the imperative of having an “always-on, anywhere” response.
“The mission is everything” and highly mobile government users need easy to use terminals and high-throughput connectivity that travels with them anywhere they deploy, at a moment’s notice.
The technology exists today, and a strong partnership between government and industry is needed to adopt an integrated satellite communications (SATCOM) architecture and strategy.
Through a strong partnership and smart risk taking, we can create a more protected and resilient space environment that will fastly enable the space innovative capabilities for our servicemen and women.
Panellists comprising representatives from the federal government and satellite industry discussed the need to seamlessly integrate relevant commercial satellite communication (COMSATCOM) models, such as SATCOM as a Service into baseline government architecture.
Additionally, the panellists shared their perspectives on how an expanded COMSATCOM integration improves operational flexibility and ensures that innovative and relevant business models are fully considered as part of the recapitalisation process.
