Inmarsat Maritime President makes Lloyds List Top 100

Ronald Spithout, President Inmarsat Maritime has ranked number 28 in the coveted Lloyds List Top 100 most influential people in shipping.

Compiled by the Lloyds List, the world’s oldest and most respected maritime newspaper with input from the maritime industry, the annual Top 100 listing provides a snapshot of thought-leaders within the sector, based on an analysis of business decisions over the past 12 months and the forward-looking trends that they work within.

This is the first appearance for Ronald Spithout in the illustrious ranking, who has been President of our Maritime business since 2014. Other notable people in the Top 30 included Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the IMO, shipping billionaire John Fredriksen and Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba.

Digitalisation of shipping

Lloyds List has identified Inmarsat at the ‘heart of the shipping industry’s digitalisation drive’ noting the launch of high-speed broadband Fleet Xpress in 2016 to set a new standard in connectivity at sea. To date, contracts have been secured on 10,000 vessels, with half already equipped with our award-winning technology.

The maritime publication also highlighted the new partnership with Danelec Marine for our Fleet Data solution, which will filter and export individual vessel data on a cloud-based platform.

In May 2018, Fleet Safety, our next generation maritime safety service, secured Global Maritime Distress and Safety approval from the International Maritime Organization, building upon our heritage of providing safety services at sea to approximately 160,000 vessels worldwide.
