Inmarsat expands its presence in the Middle East by joining the Energy Industry Council

New membership increases Inmarsat’s contribution to innovation for the oil & gas, renewables and utilities sectors across the region

Inmarsat, the world leader in global, mobile satellite communications, has today announced that it has joined the Energy Industry Council (EIC), the leading trade association for organisations that supply capital goods and services to energy industries worldwide. The move is a further reflection of Inmarsat’s ongoing engagement with the sector and its continued efforts to drive innovation and digital transformation across the global energy supply chain.

Founded in 1943, the Energy Industry Council is an established not-for-profit organisation with a membership of more than 650 companies that deliver goods and services to the energy sector. Its aim is to act as a comprehensive source of projects and business intelligence in the energy industry, unlocking opportunities for its members and helping the supply chain to win business across the globe.

More than 500 of its members operate in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. By joining their number, Inmarsat can now offer its portfolio of critical satellite communications services and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to large-scale infrastructure projects across the region, helping to support the digital transformation of the Middle East’s energy and utilities sector.

Commenting on Inmarsat’s membership of the EIC, Mike Carter, President of Inmarsat Enterprise, said: “Inmarsat has a long history of supporting the energy and utilities sector. With this move, we reaffirm our commitment to enabling safe, efficient and sustainable extractive practices for firms through the use of satellite connectivity and IoT technologies, in the Middle-East region and beyond. We are looking forward to working with the EIC and its members on a range of projects in the near term.”

Ryan McPherson, Middle East Director, Energy Industry Council, added: “Technological innovation is crucial for ensuring the longevity of the energy sector and its ability to overcome a number of different and ongoing challenges. With their global portfolio of satellite networks, Inmarsat’s membership expands the possibilities for global innovation and digital transformation across the energy supply chain, particularly in the GCC countries across the Middle East.

“As such, we are delighted to welcome Inmarsat as a member of the EIC and look forward to supporting their business goals with the help of our valuable membership database and the comprehensive range of networking services we offer.”
