Globecomm extends worldwide VAR agreement for GX

25 February 2014: Globecomm is to become a worldwide Value Added Reseller (VAR) serving the Enterprise market for Global Xpress (GX).

The agreement builds upon the relationship the specialised managed satellite services provider already has with Inmarsat as a GX VAR for the Government market, serving the Middle East and Africa regions.

Globecomm will now play a crucial role within the EMEA driving sales of Inmarsat’s new high-throughput, Ka-band GX satellite service across the continent.

Game-changing service

“We are delighted to welcome Globecomm to our family of Enterprise GX VARs,” said Ronald Spithout, President, Inmarsat Enterprise.

“Their expertise across all aspects of fixed and mobile connectivity services, in addition to their strong customer base in Africa and the Middle East, makes them an ideal partner as we prepare to launch our game-changing service.”

The EMEA region offers huge potential for a high-bandwidth service such as GX as many areas across the continent currently do not have the terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure to support such end-user applications.

Drive growth

Keith Hall, CEO of Globecomm, said: “Global Xpress is an ideal addition to our existing portfolio of connectivity services and, as a Ka-band network, it perfectly matches our in-house technical and engineering resources.

“We see GX as a perfect medium to drive growth within the EMEA VSAT market.”

The first of three GX satellites – Inmarsat-5 F1 –was launched on 8 December 2013.

It has achieved full orbital deployment and is now undertaking payload testing. Full commercial service introduction (CSI) is on schedule and targeted for mid-2014.

The second and third Inmarst-5 satellites are on course to be launched during 2014.
