24 June 2014: Inmarsat’s ground-breaking Global Xpress Ka-band service is set to help the French military to increase its operational capability and mobility.
Inmarsat and Actia Sodielec have signed a Memorandum of Arrangement to facilitate type approval of tactical Ka-band satellite terminal systems for use by the French armed forces on GX.
Actia Sodielec is Airbus’s contracted satellite terminal provider under the COMCEPT program. This delivers Ka-band communications capability to the French military for use on the Athena Fidus satellite, a French-Italian telecommunication satellite which provides secure communications to both countries’ armed forces and their emergency services.
By combining the existing Athena Fidus satellite service with that of the Inmarsat GX network, French military deployed around the world will benefit from increased geographical coverage.
“We are delighted to be announcing this new collaboration with Actia Sodielec. We believe that the ability of Global Xpress to complement existing military satellite services is key to increasing the capability of deployed personnel,” said Andy Start, President, Inmarsat Global Government.
