Fleet One brings broadband to small vessels

07 May 2014: The launch of Fleet One from Inmarsat Maritime enables yacht and fishing boat owners to take advantage of broadband services previously only enjoyed by much larger vessels.

Accessing weather information and chart updates, staying in contact with loved-ones or keeping up with the news is now as simple to do at sea as on land.

On sailing holidays or extended fishing trips, the new Fleet One service ensures small vessel owners have uninterrupted and cost-effective access to the internet, and can send SMS messages and talk on the phone, anywhere in the world.

Reliable network

Fleet One is delivered over the world’s most advanced global broadband satellite network – relied on by the maritime industry across the seven seas.

“We have all become accustomed to having access to information as and when we need it,” said Frank Coles, President, Inmarsat Maritime.

“Being at sea is a unique experience and conditions can change at the drop of a hat. This shouldn’t hamper your ability to remain connected to the world.

Great opportunity

“With this new, simple solution you will have dependable connectivity whenever you need it. With Fleet One, yachts and fishing boats now have access to the same, robust and reliable technologies previously only available on much larger vessels, allowing them equally to take full advantage of online connectivity.”

Fleet One is delivered through a compact 2.5kg antenna, specially created for leisure and fishing vessels, which can be quickly and easily installed.

Safety service

It offers data connectivity at up to 100kbps, a single voice line and SMS.

Fleet One also supports Inmarsat’s unique ‘505’ safety service, which in an emergency routes callers directly to a Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC).
