Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Users Forum

Barcelona, Spain

Inmarsat is pleased to be sponsoring this year’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Users Forum in Barcelona, Spain.

The EFB Users Forum is a joint activity with IATA that enables airlines and other aircraft operators to state their preferences in the evolution of EFB hardware, software applications, and connectivity to the ground. This ensures operational benefit to the flight deck crew and the economic benefit to the airlines. Flight Operations, Information Technology, Engineering, and Maintenance disciplines are represented among the participants of the EFB Users Forum.

With airspace operations needing to focus on two pressing challenges, congestion and decarbonisation, Valerie Chu, Director of Major Programmes, Inmarsat Aviation will update attendees on the imminent launch of Iris in Europe, and in particular Iris Global which introduces a specific focus on connected EFB applications.

Iris Global

Iris, our satellite-based data link service developed in partnership with the European Space Agency, is designed to relieve pressure on congested VHF links and improve data link services to enable next-generation air traffic management.

Iris is the start of a global evolution of digital ATM, powered by our worldwide ELERA satellite constellation that is compliant with global ATN-OSI and ATN-IPS standards. Iris provides the congestion free connectivity needed for time and trajectory-based operations, with all the datalink, connected EFB and voice services in one end-to-end encrypted satcom terminal, available on major Boeing, Airbus & Comac platforms.
