Ongoing commitment

Job opportunities across a broad range of the maritime sectors will be promoted during Seafarers Awareness Week, from the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navythe UK’s commercial fishing industry and the Merchant Navy workboats.

Last year more than 100 companies from the maritime industry supported the annual initiative and Inmarsat’s continued support for 2016 reflects our ongoing commitment to crew safety and welfare.

Set up by the IMO over 35 years ago to provide safety communications at sea, today Inmarsat’s satellites, ground network and mobile terminals are the mainstay of the Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) and Inmarsat C remains the only IMO-approved GMDSS service.

Setting standards in maritime communications, Inmarsat is also committed to providing new and innovative solutions for crew welfare, such as Fleet Media, for on-demand media content and affordable Crew Calling cards to let crew members stay in touch with loved ones via satellite phone whilst away at sea.
