Inmarsat partner Cobham signs cockpit connectivity contract with Boeing

Inmarsat is pleased to announce that partner Cobham has received a Technical Service Agreement (TSA) from Boeing for linefit certification on Boeing 777X and 737 MAX aircraft for its smaller, lighter and more powerful Aviator 200S.

Cobham’s satcom solution powers Inmarsat SB-S, the first and only operational connectivity solution for digital aircraft operations, driving operational savings and efficiencies for airlines around the world. SB-S is already in operation on Boeing 737NG aircraft with United Airlines and on Hawaiian Airlines’ Boeing 767-300 fleet.

The AVIATOR 200S address airline customers’ growing demand for continuous secure data exchange between ground operations and aircraft and is part of Cobham’s AVIATOR S series of product that support secure IP and ACARS data services, multiple IP voice channels, and powers a growing range of cutting edge application.

Fleet performance

John Broughton, Vice President, Safety and Operational Services, Inmarsat Aviation said: “Airlines throughout the world are clearly focused on optimising their fleet performance and increasing efficiency. Our award-winning SB-S platform harnesses the power of the connected flight deck to achieve these benefits.

“We are thrilled that our partner Cobham has signed a TSA to make its Aviator 200S, which provides access to SB-S, a linefit option on the Boeing 777X and 737 MAX. This milestone is further testament to SB-S’s position as the go-to solution for digital aircraft operations.”

Paul Kahn, President, Cobham Communications and Connectivity said: “We are delighted that Boeing will be offering the benefits of AVIATOR 200S to their customers. It will be particularly appealing to airlines looking to optimise flight deck connectivity whilst retaining system commonality across their fleet.”
