TSF team rushes to help Mexican storm victims

Communications experts from aid agency Télécoms Sans Frontières are helping relief efforts in Mexico following tropical storms.

More than 170 people are reported dead and at least 200,000 people have been left homeless after the country was hit by Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid.

TSF dispatched a team from its base in Nicaragua after being contacted by officials from the Mexican Red Cross.

Roads destroyed

“With the floods and landslides having destroyed the majority of roads and bridges, many of the villages affected are difficult to access,” said a TSF spokesman.

“We are collaborating with Red Cross officials who have asked us to evaluate the telecoms situation on the ground to help the many thousands of people touched by this disaster.”

Members of the Inmarsat-sponsored charity are equipped with BGAN terminals and IsatPhone Pro satellite phones.
