London college names Inmarsat Employer of the Year

City and Islington College, London has named Inmarsat Employer of the Year in recognition of its placement programme for students.

The project sees 22 Sixth Form College and Applied Sciences students taking part in a group challenge on aviation connectivity throughout this summer.

The initiative forms part of an ongoing engagement scheme between Inmarsat and City and Islington College’s high-performing science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) students.

Expert seminars

Inmarsat experts are holding a series of seminars and acting as mentors throughout the project, which will culminate in the presentation of work to Mark Dickinson, Inmarsat Vice President, Satellite Operations and John Burley, Inmarsat’s Space Analyst.

“It’s very kind of City and Islington to recognise the work we’ve put into the programme of activities, designed to enhance the employability of their most deserving students,” said James Cemmell, Inmarsat’s Head of Government Affairs.

“Colleagues from across the business have come together, outside of their normal groupings, to make this work.  If we achieve the results expected, we will have laid the foundations for a sustainable and scalable outreach programme, which can run in future years and maybe also spread beyond the core City and Islington College relationship.”

The award was presented at an annual ceremony on 25 June.
