Inmarsat joins digital careers platform for students

Inmarsat has joined LikeToBe, a digital platform that helps young people explore careers, connect with potential employers and build up their job skills.

With schools, colleges and universities closed and careers fairs cancelled because of COVID-19, LikeToBe is ramping up its activities to support students navigating the transition from education to the world of work.

“Currently these young people are at home searching online for content that has clear learning value and is also engaging. Now more than ever they need and deserve help and support,” said Antony Jinman, founder of LikeToBe.

Finding talent

Inmarsat is among a raft of world-leading organisations to sign up to the platform as part of its Early Careers activities.

Julie Hyam, Inmarsat Resourcing Business Partner – Early Careers & Talent Programmes, said: “Work experience is vital to helping students access the world of work, but with so many schemes now on hold employers need to seek alternative ways of supporting young people and I’m delighted that we are partnering with Antony and the team at LikeToBe.

Later this month, LikeToBe will host a two-day online careers show, offering students valuable insight and real life information on job options. Five members of Inmarsat staff have filmed TIC (Transformational, Inspirational Careers) Talks detailing their career stories and route into Inmarsat, and will be available to answer students’ questions.

Dual theme

The show will cover two themes – Pandemic Proof on 22 June, looking at how COVID-19 has impacted organisations and individuals – and a tie-in with International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June.

Inmarsat’s speakers are Ben Purser, who joined as a Marketing Apprentice aged 16; Advanced Concepts Engineer Alex Harding; Hannah Bates, a technical and engineering graduate; finance graduate Stephen Williams; and Laura Sandford, Head of Commercial Analytics.
