Alphasat I-4 F4 has successfully completed the next stage of its projected flight path having reached its temporary post in geosynchronous orbit.
It will remain here for several weeks while undergoing a series of in-orbit tests by Inmarsat and its Alphasat partner, the European Space Agency (ESA).
Testing will cover all Alphabus platform subsystems, as well as the satellite's L-band communications payload and four technology demonstration payloads.
Following its launch from French Guiana on 25 July, Alphasat has successfully completed all target milestones to date, including the recent boost of the spacecraft into geosynchronous orbit and deployment of its solar arrays and L-band reflector.
All critical operations have been effectively executed by a team from Astrium and Thales Alenia Space, managed by Inmarsat and supported by ESA and the French space agency CNES.
Once the payload testing is complete, Alphasat will be ready to enter commercial service and will join Inmarsat's award-winning I-4 satellite fleet, which has been powering global broadband connectivity in the L-band since 2009.
Alphasat is the most technologically advanced mobile communications satellite ever built for civilian applications and will provide additional capacity for Inmarsat customers over Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
