10 September 2019 - 11 September 2019
Inmarsat is supporting London International Shipping Week (LISW) with two industry-shaping events at our City Road headquarters, focusing on the crucial industry topics of crew welfare and digitalisation.
On 10 September, our digitalisation event will see the launch of a new report into the role of maritime start-ups, with presentations from a UK government minister, start-ups, accelerators and shipowners.
Following a panel discussion on The benefits of marine insurance digitalisation for international shipping, world-leading futurist Gerd Leonhard will give his unique insights into shipping and the supply chain.
International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Kitack Lim will be a special guest speaker at our Diversity and Digitalisation in the Shipping Industry session, co-hosted with the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) International. On the panel will be Cyprus’ Shipping Deputy Minister Natasa Pilides; Şadan Kaptanoğlu, BIMCO President; and Inmarsat Chief People Officer, Natasha Dillon, with WISTA International President Despina Theodosiou moderating.
The Apostleship of the Sea, The Mission to Seafarers, the Sailors’ Society and Seafarers’ UK are LISW 2019’s nominated charities. For this event, they have come together to ask the industry to think about the impact of technology on crew welfare, with a particular emphasis on mental wellbeing.
Dr Grahaeme Henderson, Vice President of Shipping & Maritime at Shell, will present on the importance to business performance of seafarer wellbeing, followed by an afternoon of debate and discussion.
The event will conclude with the ISWAN International Seafarers’ Welfare Awards, nominated and judged by seafarers from around the world.
