Inmarsat offers the most flexible and reliable satellite Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity platform to ensure your remote communications needs are met. We help support your digital aspirations by delivering the benefits of IoT through our two-way data connectivity services such as IsatData Pro (IDP) and BGAN M2M, through edge connectivity, innovative data platforms and leasing. Increasingly our customers are looking to us to help them with blended solutions that incorporate combinations of these IoT building blocks. Working with our global partner ecosystem we are helping industries from agriculture, energy and mining to transport and utilities do things more efficiently, more safely and more sustainably, regardless of where they operate.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is often described as a network of networks – physical objects embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. Without reliable connectivity, there is no way you can harness that data. Much of the world where agriculture and mining is focused, where goods and utilities are transported, lacks reliable connectivity. This is where Inmarsat’s satellite connectivity comes in. Offering the ubiquitous coverage needed to reach mobile and static data producers and gather data in real-time, regardless of location, our satellite services have become a key enabler in the industrial IoT landscape.
Our L-band services have been enabling the machine-to-machine (M2M) monitoring and control of remote assets for decades. Our latest generation of IDP and BGAN M2M services continue to provide the rock steady connectivity our customers need, while our commitment to innovation has led to the development of complimentary options such as LoRaWAN, field edge technology and leasing. These building blocks are all designed to be used in conjunction with each other to ensure you have visibility and control of your assets wherever they are.
Inmarsat’s IoT solutions are built around our ultra-reliable geostationary L-band network, which is trusted by governments and organisations to connect mission-critical applications globally. Ours is the perfect network for IoT applications, offering unparalleled levels of reliability and resistance to weather disruption ensuring you can access your critical data points at any time. Because of our satellites’ distance and orbit, they stay in position helping you monitor and control your assets constantly, unlike low earth orbit (LEO) satellites which may take a data point every 24 hours or so.
While our I-4 satellites will continue to provide coverage well into the 2020s, we are continuing to invest in our L-band network. Our sixth generation (I-6) fleet of satellites represents a step-change in the way in which we deliver our [L-band] services. From the world’s most advanced global safety services and low-cost mobile services, to new applications for the 5G era, its capabilities will further strengthen our world-leading L-band offer.
