In celebration of 40 years of innovation, Collins Aerospace's Daniel Shea discusses the company's successful 25-year partnership with Inmarsat, built on trust.

At the SATELLITE 2019 Conference in Washington, D.C. we sat down with Daniel Shea, Director, Government Aviation Solutions, Collins Aerospace, to discuss his company’s successful partnership with Inmarsat in the U.S. government market and other industry issues. Collins Aerospace, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. Through the world’s most extensive portfolio of global narrowband and wideband, and via our ecosystem of best-of-breed wholesale channel partners such as Collins Aerospace, we deliver robust, flexible and scalable alternatives for U.S. government customers to augment their satellite communications in both L-band and Ka-band, whenever needed.

During this video podcast, Mr. Shea kicks off the conversation noting that Collins Aerospace and Inmarsat have a more than 25-year partnership that is built on trust. Because of this trust between the two organizations, Collins Aerospace has become a leader in the aeronautical sector with close to 6,000 aircraft on their network in partnership with Inmarsat. The company offers a full spectrum of value-added services that complement Inmarsat’s offering, to include flight planning, flight following, dispatch and weather. Further, the discussion touches on mission assurance and tactical operations – a top priority for both Collins Aerospace and Inmarsat. Mr. Shea offers some insight into how their always-on network is protected and monitored 24/7/365 via their U.S.-based Network Operation Center – meeting core requirements of their government customers, whose every mission is different and can take place anywhere in the world. Inmarsat delivers the seamless experience demanded by Collins Aerospace highly mobile global customers.  Mr. Shea closes out the discussion as it started – by noting that “having the coverage where required, the throughput where required and having that commitment from Inmarsat to ensure our success goes back to trust. The joint roadmap is bright and the partnership is even brighter.”

Inmarsat services are made available globally to the U.S. government thanks to our long-term relationships like this one.  By combining the expertise of our skilled wholesale partners, who have been at the forefront of satellite communications-related technology and innovation for nearly four decades, as well as input from our U.S. government customers, we continue to develop next-generation commercial services and technology built for users in all domains.
