Delivering reliable satellite services anywhere, anytime

Government

Kevin West, COMSAT’s Chief Commercial Officer, discusses his company’s recent DISA contract and the value of the COMSAT/Inmarsat partnership.

In our combined, continuing commitment to provide U.S. servicemen and women with anytime/anywhere resilient communications, COMSAT and Inmarsat have invested greatly into our value added reseller (VAR) partnership. Together, we have compiled a proven track record in serving U.S. government customers with the best combination of technology solutions and personal support. Most recently, our selection for a significant government contract validated this.

In April 2017, the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) awarded COMSAT a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to support the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies’ global missions with Inmarsat’s BGAN and Global Xpress services. Government mobile users demand interoperable communications with guaranteed data rates to satisfy mission requirements at a moment’s notice, anywhere in the world. Through this contract, BGAN and Global Xpress support the full spectrum of DoD operations and provide users with an integrated solution for voice, narrowband and wideband data, and streaming video at high-speed data rates through the use of handheld or portable satellite terminals.

US Air Force weapons control officers onboard an E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft prepare for a mission over Turkey in support of the operation. This operation is a security mission to enforce the United Nations no-fly zone north of the 36 degree parallel from Iraqi air and ground incursion. A four nation coalition of US, Turkey, Great Britain and France has been actively protecting and supplying Kurdish refugees since Desert Storm in 1991.

Built with government users in mind

We are proud to offer Inmarsat’s award-winning Global Xpress – the first and only end-to-end commercial Ka-band network from a single operator that delivers worldwide service – and its market-leading mobile satellite BGAN capability. Both services were built with government users in mind and deliver resilient, flexible and scalable alternatives for U.S. government to augment military satellite communications in both L-band and Ka-band, whenever needed, providing critical support to multiple DoD Service Components. Contiguous United States (CONUS) and Outside the Contiguous United States (OCONUS) users from different commands deploy Inmarsat type-approved, easy to use terminals and reliable services in various locations to support a variety of missions.

We at COMSAT have built our secure terrestrial network to interconnect Inmarsat’s infrastructure to our own global core Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. The network is capable of supporting reach-back to DoD services over the Inmarsat Global Xpress and BGAN network and enables the DoD to deploy globally with a robust information assurance posture.

SATCOM as a Service

The new BPA contract enables users to acquire SATCOM as a Service – via Inmarsat’s always on, end-to-end worldwide network. From global, fully redundant ground infrastructure to additional satellites in orbit, SATCOM as a Service delivers guaranteed data rates through easy-to-use and cost-effective terminals with committed information rates throughout the world.

That is what a strong, productive partnership is all about. COMSAT and Inmarsat stand ready to support the military mission with the most innovative, reliable and secure satellite services available. Our combined capabilities offer the ultimate resilience, redundancy, diversity, protection, scalability and global portability. A true force-multiplying approach, one that is ready for your order.
