Inmarsat L-band service wins Mobile Satellite Users Association 2017 Mobility Innovation Award

Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L) announced today that its Wideband Streaming L-band (WiSL) service is the winner of the “Top Government Mobility Satcom Innovation” category in the Mobile Satellite Users Association’s (MSUA) 2017 Mobility Innovation Awards. This is the second consecutive year that Inmarsat has won this award, which recognizes the industry’s leading mobility companies at the annual Satellite Conference held in Washington, D.C. Inmarsat’s Global Xpress service won the award in 2016.

To respond to critical government requirements for ultra-small terminals and high-speed connectivity, Inmarsat has adapted its trusted, highly reliable L-band service into a new capability designed to support airborne, expeditionary and maritime missions. In use today on multiple platforms and missions, government operations are using Inmarsat’s worldwide L-band space and ground network through micro antennas, as small as five inches, providing data rates as high as 10Mbps x 10Mbps. Inmarsat’s U.S. government customers have access to unprecedented data rates, as well as broad coverage and performance for their connectivity needs, while retaining the ease of use, reliability and low cost of ownership provided by Inmarsat’s global network.

“Our government users continue to demand higher throughputs from smaller form factor antennas to meet high-demand ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) and PED (Process, Exploitation, Dissemination) needs.  We developed WiSL to meet these demands,” said Steve Gizinski, Vice President, Special Programs, U.S. Government Business Unit, Inmarsat, Inc. “Inmarsat has been providing trusted worldwide mobility services to the U.S. government for almost four decades.  Winning this award for the second consecutive year demonstrates our continued commitment to innovation and reaffirms that we deliver dependable, cost-effective solutions that exceed the requirements of our U.S. government customers.”
