Inmarsat extends partnership with Intellian

Inmarsat has announced the extension of its strategic relationship with Intellian Technologies, the world's technological leader in marine satellite antennas.

Intellian has designed three new marine antennas to support FleetBroadband (FB), Inmarsat's flagship maritime service, which provides dependable, seamless voice and broadband data coverage across the world's oceans.

The new Intellian product line covers Inmarsat's FB150, FB250 and FB500 services. All three of Intellian's new marine antennas include a broad range of IP and networking related value-added features such as IP routing, firewall capability and vessel fleet tracking. The Intellian FB250 and FB500 feature built in WiFi to enable interaction with the web-based control interface and allow wireless Push-To-Talk (PTT) services for smartphones using free, downloadable smartphone apps.

Frank Coles, President, Inmarsat Maritime, said: “We have always developed strategic relationships with high quality manufacturers in order to deliver the most effective connectivity solutions. Intellian's new range of FleetBroadband terminals for the maritime market is yet a further example of this partnership approach in action. Since July 2011, we have worked with Intellian to produce the Ka-band GX antenna and a Ku-to-GX antenna in preparation for the launch of Global Xpress.”

Eric Sung, President and CEO, Intellian said: “We are delighted to extend our strategic partnership with Inmarsat and to offer the maritime industry a range of reliable terminals for the industry leading FleetBroadband service with a host of innovative features. With our global service infrastructure and continued investment in R&D, we are ideally positioned to provide a one-stop shop for shipboard communications hardware.”

All three new antennas complement Intellian's hardware for Global Xpress (GX), the world's first globally available Ka-band service, which will support broadband connections at speeds comparable with terrestrial networks. They are also capable of supporting Inmarsat's XpressLink service, the world's only fully-integrated Ku-band and L-band solution with VSAT and FleetBroadband terminals. XpressLink offers the maritime industry high-speed broadband for a fixed monthly fee, together with a free migration path to GX, when this becomes available.
