Inmarsat confirms type approval for Cobham SATCOM’s EXPLORER 3075GX and EXPLORER 5075GX Global Xpress terminals

First Land Terminals to Meet Rigorous Inmarsat Standards and Earn ‘Approved’ Status for Global Xpress.

Following extensive live testing on Inmarsat-5 F1 from Cobham SATCOM’s facility in Denmark, Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L) today announced that the Cobham EXPLORER 3075GX (E3075GX) and EXPLORER 5075GX (E5075GX) terminals have received full type approval for use over the Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX) network. They are the first land terminals to achieve full type approved status for GX and can now be used under the footprint of the first GX satellite, which covers Europe, Russia, Africa, Middle East and Asia. Inmarsat’s global commercial Ka-band service is due to become available early in the second half of 2015.

The E3075GX and E5075GX have been designed primarily for media, NGOs and global governments. The terminals include a fully integrated iDirect Core Module with a user-friendly design, allowing users with little satellite experience to access GX services within minutes.

“Today’s announcement is a significant milestone in the GX programme and yet another step forward as we continue rolling out our revolutionary Ka-band network across the globe,” said Greg Ewert, president of Inmarsat Enterprise. “Cobham SATCOM has long been a reliable and innovative Inmarsat partner and we are pleased that the E3075GX and E5075GX have become the first commercial GX land terminals to achieve compliance with our comprehensive type approval requirements.”

The E5075GX is an auto-deploy fly-away system that is lightweight, rugged and highly portable, that will automatically acquire a GX satellite wherever it is located, with minimal operator intervention. The E3075GX is a variant of the E5075GX, which is manually pointed at the satellite by the user, guided by an intelligent software pointing assistant. The E5075GX has also been used to support beta testing requirements for a number of Inmarsat enterprise and government value added resellers.

“EXPLORER GX terminals are designed to make connecting to Global Xpress easy, so professional users can make the most of Inmarsat’s new cost-effective high throughput service,” said Henrik Noerrelykke, VP Land Business, Cobham SATCOM. “With type approval of the terminals now completed, we are ramping up manufacturing and will be at full production by the end of April.”
