Jumbo Shipping company equips fleet with XpressLink

Netherlands-based heavy-lift shipping company Jumbo is to equip its fleet with Inmarsat's Ku and L-band hybrid service XpressLink.

Within the scope of the agreement is the option for a free upgrade in 2014 to Global Xpress, Inmarsat's game-changing, next-generation global satellite network which will effectively double the available bandwidth.

“Our market predominantly comprises commercial worldwide traffic which requires a reliable and truly global service,” said Inmarsat International Sales Manager Assad Khan.

Fixed monthly fee

“There is a shift in thinking among ship owners who are, in increasing numbers, looking for higher-volume communication systems with high data speeds and a fixed monthly fee.”

Marco Cevat, IT Manager for Jumbo, commented: “During the initial tender phase we selected different parties. The choice of Inmarsat was based on the fact that it delivers a fully managed Ku-/L-band system at a fixed rate.

“We were also impressed with the level of consultative thinking from Inmarsat.

Futureproof connection

“The demand for more bandwidth is increasing on a monthly basis and with this solution we are confident that Inmarsat's combined package of VSAT and FleetBroadband will deliver us a reliable futureproof connection,” he added.

Frank Coles, President, Inmarsat Maritime, said: “The choice by Jumbo endorses the confidence we at Inmarsat have in the value of this solution.

“The offer is combined with the upgrade to the future proofed solution, Global Xpress.”
