Inmarsat announces Diamond Sponsorship of London International Shipping Week

Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications services, has announced that it is the 'Diamond' sponsor of the highly anticipated London International Shipping Week (LISW). This pioneering event will focus on London's vital role in the positive development of the global shipping industry.

In addition to its sponsorship of LISW, Inmarsat has also announced it will be the lead supporter of 'Ship Efficiency: The Event', a two-day (September 10-11) conference and exhibition which will be held at the historic Church House Conference Centre in the heart of Westminster, London. Organised by Fathom, the specialist publishing and events company, 'Ship Efficiency: The Event' is the only conference and exhibition within the LISW programme to focus on strategies for improving operational and vessel efficiency.

President of Inmarsat Maritime, Frank Coles, will be participating in the opening session of the 'Ship Efficiency: The Event' conference programme, together with Bo Cerup-Simonsen, Head of Maersk Maritime Technology and Tomas Aminoff, Director, Technology Strategy, Wärtsilä. The conference will be chaired by Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the largest international shipping association and Jan Otto de Kat, Director of Energy Efficiency at the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Inmarsat will chair a 'free-to-attend' seminar on the second day of 'Ship Efficiency: The Event'. Entitled “Driving profit through integrated operations”, the seminar will include speakers from Eniram, AWT, UK HO and Polestar and is designed as an open forum to discuss practical solutions and strategies for improving operational and vessel efficiency and overall the bottom line profit.

Commenting on Inmarsat's sponsorship of LISW and 'Ship Efficiency: The Event', Frank Coles said: “Inmarsat has a long and proud heritage in the maritime industry. We were founded by the IMO in 1979 to provide safety services to the maritime community. Today, over 30 years later, we remain at the heart of maritime safety across the world and our satellites are the mainstay of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).

“As an industry leader, we are delighted to be the leading commercial supporter of London International Shipping Week. The LISW programme – including 'Ship Efficiency: The Event' – is attracting senior maritime representatives from across the world and this inaugural year promises to deliver an exciting, inspirational and rewarding series of events.

“A key theme this year is the development of strategies for driving operational efficiency for ship owners – both at sea and on land,” continued Coles. “As the global maritime industry continues to operate in an extremely tough environment, ship owners are looking for fresh solutions to optimise the efficiency of their fleet operations. Satellite communications are central to addressing these concerns and for opening up new options.

“My message to ship operators is that they can make significant operational efficiencies in areas such as fuel expenditure and emissions reduction if, and only if, they change their mind-set towards satellite communications.”

Frank Coles will deliver the keynote speech to delegates at 'Ship Efficiency: The Event' on Tuesday, September 10th with a further address at the LISW Gala Dinner on Thursday, September 12th at Grosvenor House.

Join Inmarsat at London International Shipping Week, the event programme spans across the city of London between 9th and 13th September 2013.
