Inmarsat is shortlisted for two Seatrade Awards

Two Inmarsat services have been shortlisted for prestigious maritime awards in the Seatrade Awards, which recognise the success, ambition and innovation that inspires the future of the industry.

Fleet Xpress, Inmarsat’s ground-breaking maritime satellite service, has made the shortlist in the Digital Technology Award category. Launched globally in 2016, Fleet Xpress has already secured commitments for installation on over 10,000 vessels.

Powered by Inmarsat’s Global Xpress network, its combination of Ka-band high-speed broadband and reliable L-band backup – delivered seamlessly by a single operator – has set a new standard for global maritime communications.

Safety at sea

SafetyNet II is in the running for the Safety at Sea Award. This is the web-based successor of the SafetyNET platform responsible for the transmission of Maritime Safety Information messages, including GMDSS alerts, weather and navigation warnings, and piracy alerts. SafetyNET II, which will be rolled out this year, works over FleetBroadband as well as Inmarsat C.

In addition, Inmarsat is sponsoring the Investment in People Award, which recognises a significant contribution to the recruitment, training, retention and advancement of the industry’s most valuable asset.

The Seatrade Awards have attracted the highest number of entries since their launch in 1989 and winners will be announced on 30 June at Grosvenor House, London.
