Inmarsat to host live Global Xpress demonstrations at SIA’s DoD Commercial SATCOM Workshop

Inmarsat U.S. Government Business Unit’s executives to speak on DoD COMSAT evolution

Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L), the leading provider of global mobile satellite communication services, today announced its participation at the Satellite Industry Association’s (SIA) 12th Annual Department of Defense (DoD) Commercial SATCOM Workshop in Arlington, Virginia (Crystal Gateway Marriott), December 15-16.

At the event, Inmarsat will provide live demonstrations of Global Xpress, the world’s first and only end-to-end high throughput commercial Ka-band network from a single operator that spans the world. U.S. government-tested and in operation today, Global Xpress complements U.S. government military satellite communications and delivers a highly reliable commercial Ka-band network that meets mobile, on-demand communication needs, worldwide. Users also will have the opportunity to discover more about Inmarsat’s new line of innovative L-band services that were custom-built to support the U.S. government’s critical communication requirements. The live demonstrations will take place from 7:30 to 17:00 during both days of the event.

In addition, Peter Hadinger, President, U.S. Government Business Unit and Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, Senior Vice President for Government Strategy and Policy, U.S. Government Business Unit will take part on panels during the workshop.

Hadinger will speak on the “Combined Senior Government and Industry Leaders” panel from 13:00-14:30 on Friday, December 16.

This discussion will examine how to further integrate COMSATCOM principles and solutions into the DoD architecture in a cost-efficient manner while maximizing SATCOM capabilities to the warfighter. Brig. Gen Robert T. Osterthaler, USAF (Retired), will moderate the panel. In addition to Hadinger, John Hill, SES, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, Principal Director for Space Policy; Winston Beauchamp, Director, DoD, Space Advisor (PDSA) Staff and Deputy Under Secretary (Space); Ken Peterman, Executive Vice President of Government Services for ViaSat; and John Ratigan, President of iDirect Government will share their insights.

Cowen-Hirsch will speak on the “Commercial SATCOM Operational Integration” panel from 15:45-17:00 on Thursday, December 15.

This session will focus on the operational COMSATCOM challenges in the current changing environment and, particularly, how the U.S. DoD and U.S. government can best leverage emerging technologies while implementing a centrally managed pool of commercial satellite (COMSAT) bandwidth. Along with moderator, Colonel Jack D. Fulmer, II, Chief, C4 Transport Division, Joint Staff/J6, U.S. Air Force, Cowen-Hirsch will speak with COL Brian M. Moore, J3/7, JFCC SPACE; Jim Heather, SATCOM and Spectrum Management Division, USSTRATCOM; Rick Lober, Vice President/General Manager for the Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division; and Mike Winchester, Director of Satellite Ground Solutions for Northrop Grumman Mission Systems.
