Dependability, reliability and robustness are key strengths that both Inmarsat and Land Rover share and that’s why we’re teaming up to sponsor the Land Rover Experience Tour 2015. The tour involves a handful of teams, driving the latest Land Rover Discovery Sport, on a three week trek across the Northern Territories of Australia from 19 October.
Each car will be kitted out with our voice, broadband and machine-to-machine satellite services ensuring the teams are online while off road – sharing their experiences in real-time with fans across the globe.
Our satellite network is global, so it doesn’t matter where the cars go. Whether it’s updating a blog, tweeting a photo or even raising the alarm in times of need from the middle of the outback, we’ll always have them covered.
Whether it’s tracking the vehicles, broadband comms on the move, dependable voice communications or smart device connectivity, we’ve got the teams covered.
BGAN – this service gives the teams simultaneous voice and broadband data on the move.
IsatHub – a smart connectivity service allowing the teams to use their smart devices to talk, text access the internet and their apps wherever they go.
IsatPhone 2 – our latest satphone with a reliable voice line and an emergency assistance button – peace of mind wherever the trek takes them.
IsatData Pro – a low-data rate service to track the vehicles, and enabling remote monitoring of telemetry data.
Throughout 2014 and 2015, over 3,500 ordinary people undertook gruelling tests and challenges at camps throughout Germany, competing for a chance to be part of the Experience Tour. The challenges pushed the prospective team members to their limits, to make sure the winners were ready to undertake the arduous trek across Australia. Meet the six winners taking part in the challenge:
Diana Arnold, 41: A business administrator from Bobfingen, Diana describes taking part in the tour as ‘a dream come true’. She’s looking forward to getting to know her fellow winners and putting the Land Rover discover sport through its paces. Her favourite luggage items are a jar of Nutella and a photo of her family.
Kai-Uwe Stoye, 27: A health and nutrition adviser from Berlin, Kai’s looking forward to off-roading through unspoilt Australian landscapes and working with the team. He’s made sure to pack his camera and his pocket-knife.
Kerstin Steele, 26: An E-commerce manager from Esslingen, Kerstin’s looking forward to fording rivers, meeting steep slopes and encountering kangaroos and crocodiles. She’s bringing her sunglasses, and her good spirits!
Mark binder, 32: A holiday apartment operator from Leipzig, Mark’s looking forward to meeting the locals and driving the Discovery Sport all day long. In his luggage, he’s bringing good spirits and a sense of fun.
Meike Schneider, 42: An entrepreneur from Stuttgart, Meike’s looking forward to building good relationships with the team and meeting the local people, as well as putting her off-road skills to the test. Meike packs a good-luck charm from her daughter.
Steffen Tabke, 28: A test engineer from Xanten, Steffen’s looking forward to conquering the challenges that Australia will provide -with the help of his fellow team-mates. He’s bringing his hiking boots and a multi-trail.
The team is travelling in convoy across Australia’s Northern Territories and thanks to Inmarsat’s IsatData Pro service you can track their journey in real time, no matter where they are in the outback, here.
