The Colorado-based Love Hope Strength Foundation travels the world, staging concerts in amazing locations to raise money to build cancer treatment centres.
Last year, the organisation staged a concert on Mount Everest. This year, it was the Machu Picchu in Peru, and in 2009, Kilimanjaro will be the stunning venue.
At this year’s event, 63 travellers - including musicians from The Fixx, Fastball and The Alarm, along with cancer survivors and their supporters from around the world - joined together to raise funds and awareness of cancer-related issues in Peru.
Of course, not everyone can get to such exotic venues. So to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy the experience, the organisers upload podcasts and videos of the performances from the mountain using a Thrane & Thrane Explorer 100 BGAN terminal.
Last year, 5 million people tuned in to the Everest event via a dedicated website.
“BGAN allows us to bring our message of global cancer care to the world,” says Love Hope Strength Foundation executive director, Shannon Foley.
