The Sailors’ Society Wellness at Sea conference will tackle the challenges faced by crew spending months at a time at sea, and what the maritime industry can do to improve onboard health and wellbeing.
The vast majority of incidents occurring at sea are attributed to human error. The Sailors’ Society has identified underlying issues including poor mental health, fatigue and stress that can contribute to mistakes being made.
The impact of these can be the difference between safe transit and an incident with a major cost to the company. Inmarsat is gold sponsor of the 2017 conference, being held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore, which will address the key factors and offer ways to improve crew wellness which not only improve safety and efficiency, but also contribute directly to the bottom line.
Ron Vollenga, Inmarsat Maritime Market Development Manager, will be joining the communications session at 14:30 to speak about the positive impact that access to on-board internet and calls home has on crew welfare.
With FleetBroadband and Fleet Xpress, seafarers can stay connected without impacting on operational communications. Inmarsat’s on-demand entertainment service Fleet Media brings the latest movies, sports and TV shows to vessels anywhere at sea.
