First FleetBroadband 150 install takes just 15 minutes
14-07-2009 - The Miclyn Enterprise is the first vessel to switch on to high-speed connectivity using Inmarsat's new FleetBroadband 150 service.
It took just 15 minutes for installation of the Thrane & Thrane Sailor 150 FleetBroadband system onboard the multi-purpose offshore support vessel, at the Jalan Brigjen Katamso shipyard in Batam, Indonesia.
The FB150 service, which is engineered for small and medium-sized fishing, merchant and leisure craft, gives vessels access to the internet at up to 150 kbps and also high quality voice calls and SMS.
Improve efficiency
Darren Ang, chief operating officer of boat's owners, Miclyn Offshore Transport, said:
"With the recommendation from Jason Electronics, our trusted contractor, we came to
know and understand the advantages of using FB150.
"FleetBroadband will enable our crew onboard to have access to emails at faster speed and lower cost. This will improve efficiency in communication with our offices worldwide."
Inmarsat maritime business director Piers Cunningham adds that FB150 has been designed to provide owners of smaller vessels with professional grade communications by delivering FleetBroadband's IP data capability at an affordable rate.
"FB150 is a quantum leap forward for smaller maritime enterprises requiring better connectivity and improved efficiency, ensuring smooth, uninterrupted operations at sea," he said.
