50,000 migrate to Inmarsat for asset tracking and monitoring

15-10-2009 - Fifty thousand users of asset tracking and monitoring devices across North and Central America have successfully migrated to the Inmarsat network.

Users of GlobalWaveMT terminals in Canada, the United States and Mexico will now enjoy improved coverage and enhanced signal quality as a result of the move.

The migration was managed by Skywave Mobile Communications, Inmarsat's global provider of satellite data communication equipment and services for machine-to-machine applications (M2M).

Assured service
Inmarsat's vice-president of business development and strategy, Leo Mondale, said: "We welcome the 50,000 GlobalWave customers to the I-4 satellite constellation. Their business is now supported by the world's most advanced mobile satellite network with an assured service into the 2020s."

The GlobalWaveMT series portfolio of products provides fixed or mobile asset tracking and monitoring for a wide range of markets. All use a proprietary GPS receiver that offers ultra-low power consumption for extended battery life in untethered M2M applications.

The successful migration means GlobalWave users can continue to grow their business with confidence knowing their satellite data service is supported well into the future.

Greater performance
Vice-president of technical operations at SkyWave, Tom Blackwell, said: "We are very pleased with the transition. With the Inmarsat service, GlobalWave customers can now enjoy improved coverage and enhanced signal quality, which translates to even greater performance and reliability."
